This journal entry is going to ramble on, so get comfortable. It will repeat a lot but I hope it makes a point by the end.
A lot is being said about Admins reading journals. Let me start this with the sharing of what is common knowledge on the site- Admins are members of the site. Read that again- we are members of the site. Meaning we can rate, we can add, we can post as we see fit, as long as we do not cross the line into rule breaking. So yes, we can rate you a 1. We can give negative honor. We can post a journal calling out bullshit/ misinformation you are sharing about the site.
As MEMBERS- Cancer has given us this right. You can call it ‘abuse of power’ but it isn’t. We are members in Cancer’s eyes. Yes, we give our time to him/ this site- as we care, and want to. But we have as much right as anyone else on this site. Taking on a title of Admin doesn’t not take away the title of member.
But as Admin- we are aware of the rules. Rules. Could you imagine this site without them? Any website really. Just take a second, think of it. No rules. You can post anything you want. Say anything you want. Fake news be damn- just think of what you would see and read on here.
Just to clear this up as some of you might not be aware- we take test to become an Admin. Some take those test often, but once you reach Master you should know what is what.
I started out as an Acolyte. Then I became a Sentoran. Which means I checked profiles and journals for rules breakers, and images for showing too much. I enjoyed the job as I am a detailed kind of person, did it for 38 years at work. I then asked to be a Dominar as I wanted to help in the forum, to keep it clean. And to learn that section of the site. I am still a Dominar on that profile - TheRat. Cancer has not taken that title, and I keep the account active.
This profile, my main one, Vampirewitch 39 reached Sire in 7 months, I became an Acolyte- Which is someone who helps members with the ‘help questions’ link. Mind you that is when the testing begins. Then you have to prove yourself and was given the two lower level admin positions. That didn’t mean I think they are lower levels by any means. Those in that level get the blunt rudeness of the members. They are the ones who suspend. Who take the hit on the chin for doing the job they also volunteering to perform for the site. I remember those days- and I remember those hits, insults. It was like the members treated you bad as they think of you as ‘less’ then a Master. A punching bag. For me- Nothing is further from the truth.
So forward some time *I can’t for the life of me remember how long, but at least two year* I was asked to step into the Master Vampire role that Silverbow was leaving as she was stepping down. Yes folks- the site has been around long enough, the job so time consuming, stressful that people leave the positions. You get to the point it stops being fun.
Those Admins who wish to step down are not just thrown out, they are in a group called Consul. Cancer respects the time they put in, and treats them like retired military members if you will. They are our backups. When I first got the Master Vampire- most welcome me, offered any help. Not being an active Admins never meant they did not have years of knowledge that should be respected, listened to. And these are the ones who made the site what it was. Respect.
Mind you this site has slow down. When I first became an Admin it was 600, 700 people on at a time. And you were looking at only One Hand *Images*, 7 Master Vampires and I am guessing here- maybe a dozen Dominar/ Sentorans. So 20 Admins to handle a site that was huge. But we did it.
I wanted you to understand that part, a little of the history of the site. What each of us do, our roles. A Master is someone who started off as a lower Admin who proves they can get the job done. We have different personalities, we have different life styles, we have different ways of looking at things. We have different limits of what we will take before we say enough.
And yes- we disagree. We talk, we ask Images to make the call on those. Why? Because she is the one Cancer trust the most. Her job is to watch the watchers, in my mind. Truth told I have made several mistakes. And she has pointed them out to me. But we hang in, we learn from our mistakes.
Cancer is really big about that- you learn. You don’t repeat. Understand? Good. I have had that jest of a discussion with him. It’s not one I want to repeat, as he doesn’t let things slide. Does it matter to me? Do I want to do a good job? I think all the members, mind you Members- who take step up to be tested, who put the time in, who take the crap that is slung at them, care. Or why are we doing it?
Now- Journals.
As a newbie on the site- I loved the journals. I still do. I love the insight into people. You learn so much as they share with you. They take the time to type out an entry. They are sharing something with us. Anyone can read the journals, even if you aren’t a member of the site. They are open to the universe.
I have read about abuse, love, hate, and anger. I have listen to the music you found, read about parents who just didn’t understand. I have read about gardens, new jobs, being let go from a job, being homeless. You name it- I have read it on this site. This site is a mix bag, and I love it.
Journals have lead me to some great friendships on this site. To understand I am not alone in hardships of life. I have smiled at the good day’s others have had, felt remorse and sadness for other days they had to get though. And if leaving a comment of “Tomorrow will be better” meant something to them- why wouldn’t I? Or say congrats on passing a test. Or even just reading. We write to be seen. We write to reach out, to have our say. Such an easy step in life to reach out to someone. And this is what I like to read about in journals- member’s life.
Cancer did introduce the site tool so you could make the journal private. No one can read it. He also did the code, making it available to only those you give the code to. But do you see many of those? You can complain, say stay off my journal, but you want it read. If not- why not make it private. Us it for your own therapy. I know I made a lot of private entries after my parents died. It was just things, at a time I did not want to share with anyone, even those I called friends on here. I knew they would share support, but I just wanted to have my say, without anyone input. Or judgements.
Cancer gave me that. This site gave me that. And you wonder why we care about VampireRave. You really just don’t understand and never will. Didn’t you leave the site? I did. For years. I lost both parents, my mother after a long illness. Then closed down a family business that had been open since 1948. Adjusted to losing the only job I even knew and one that I could not just ‘get hired elsewhere doing the same’.
I then moved into caregiver for three family members over a few years. Then lost one sister. Dealing with another who has nothing to do with the family but to try and get money. See? I share. It’s my journal, it’s my home.
Then an issue with the site as to get log back in. But I need the site, I needed to ‘read’ normal people journals. To talk to people about normal things like gardens, music, tv shows, the site, life. Just freaking LIFE. The journals gave me that, and again, has led to new friendships because I leave comments, I get messages, I talk to people.
And a personal note to the newest Masters- I acknowledge you. You held the line, you kept the site that I loved. I left the site and came back to find several new Master Vampires and Admins doing the job. Thank you for keeping it safe. Respect given to each of you my friends.
Today on VR I spend about 99% of my time when I read journals in my VW, Rat mood. It’s just me, as a person who handles the stress of caring for two disable people all day. Depression. I read to see others life, to forget my own.
But then that other 1% is when you come upon the journal with lines that start out like “The Admin on this site” “I can kick your ass” “They started it!” “You can’t keep my name out of your mouth.” Or you get reports on the journals. People report these kind of journals. We might not have a dog in the fight- but when its posted, we step into the ring not matter if we want to or not. And trust me when I say I don’t come onto this site for stress. But it comes with the job.
That is when my mood changes. I go into Admin, I read as Master Vampire VampireWitch39. Master Vampire with all the knowledge I have. See- you might think 8 years is a long time on this site. But what you don’t understand is- that isn’t any time on this site. In ten days it will be 17 years for me. 17 years with knowing, seeing, reading. This is a website. Websites are written words, history.
As Master Vampires we know that history. We see it, we read it, we remember it. We record it. We talk about it with each other. Yes- shocking to some but we talk. And I don’t mean the comments in each other journals. We talk. We talk about life, we talk about our days, we talk about why you did this ruling on the site, we talk about how I wouldn’t of done that but YOU are you. We talk. We know we will not see things as the same. But we also know we each do it our own way. We have equal powers.
And we are a small group. We are not afraid to step to each other, ask what the other thinks.
And when I say we are a tight, bonded group- I mean it. We can’t share what we know. We don’t give out information. People will ask, people will say things to us, even flat out ask. They want information they believe we have. When someone sends me a “Hi, how are you?” I can’t answer with ‘Oh I am so mad. XXX did this, and I found XXX on the XXX and that breaks the rules. So I had to XXX and then XXX came to me and said XXX and then I said XXXX” See- I can’t even type it out. Seven of us. We talk to Images, and Moonie. As they know what we do. So the 9 of us. And some of the 9 aren’t on every day, as active. We only have each other.
So when you see us in each other’s journals- joking, you really don’t see even the half of what we talk about. You see what we can show you. What we are like as we deal with the daily crap shoveled our way. We can be talking about popcorn as we read what is posted, we pull up rules, we debate if it is against the rules or not. You don’t see that part. And you never will.
We each have done our time before we got the Master title, we each respect that of each other. We are on the boat together. And we know we have to be accepted into a small exclusive club. And we know the site depends on us to keep it under control. For the members.
Journals are chosen to be read. They don’t automatically load on your screen. You click to open the newest journal page, you click on the journal you want to read. And as you write that journal- you know this. And as a member- you know it is read by an Admin. I usually read journals logged in, but I have been known to read known trouble makers, drama makers off line.
Is that sneaky? No. I just don’t want the drama. Like you have seen of late- they go off if they ‘see’ an Admin. How we are abusing the power by just reading a public journal on a public site.
Now you understand why we don’t show up on your last ten. ;) It just keeps the drama down. And drama isn’t any admin friend. But we do reach a point and, as MEMBERS to the site, we blow off steam.
Remember- I read all the journals you write. All member’s. 99% as just me, VW, Rat. The old woman who had no life but caring for her family. But then the 1% of me, with my title, working as the Admin role I took on, will step up. Yes- it’s a job. Yes, we are expected to read the journals. Just as we are expected to check kismets, profile, portfolios, stream page, answer any help questions, answer any questions about the site people send us, investigate complaints, and do some PR while doing our job.
We are on the lookout of rule breakers, profiles made against the rules, keep the database up, spam, forum in order, and so much more you will never know about. As a member- you shouldn’t even be thinking about how this site runs. I want you to never have to think about it. Just enjoy it.
You need help- we are here to offer it, within the rules Cancer made his site on. And that is one of the biggest hang ups people have. Cancer Rules.
We play by them, we get bashed, we get 1’s. We get negative honor, comments. Just like you. So when you come to me and say XXX is giving me negative honor- I tell you the same as I would be told if I complained. We all play by the same rules of the Cancer playground known as VR. Difference is- we enforce the rules.
But you do you read about it in my journal? No. Can you read it about it in my journal if I got a 1? Yes. Why? Because I have a right to talk about it in my journal as a member. I, like most Admins, don’t bitch or complain because we understand more than most it is the way the site is made, set up by the owner. We see enough people bitching- we don’t want to do it. Or at least that is me.
Once a journal starts drama I don’t post to it. Why? A journal is your space to vent. And as we see- it takes a lot to get a journal suspended. It’s your ‘place’. And if I disagree with you, I don’t go over and comment. Now- will I comment in my journal? Heck yes. Why? It’s mine. My place. And I expect you to treat my journal like I do yours. As in you don’t come over and start crap in my journal. I don’t in yours. I know- most will not respect that but it is how I see journals. Again- I do not post comments into your journal as I will not fight with you.
So when drama starts- I can go to my journal. I can make light of it, I can joke around with my friends who are Admins. I can lighten the mood as we have to read and judge if the rules are broken. I can try and defuse the whole god darn thing. Remember- you clicked on my journal, I did not ask you to read it.
I don’t do kismets, I don’t comment on your or any other journals but those of Admins as we know the history, we see what others don’t. We are talking in places you can’t see. And we have that shared knowledge and bond. You can play like we don’t know- but we do. Really when I say same tricks, just different horse, I mean it. One trick ponies are common on the site.
You say we are adding to the drama, to stay off your journals. Understand- it’s our job to read the journals, to see if the rules are broken. So don’t expect that to happen. You attack, I just joked around about it because at some point it just becomes funny. We can vent, we can talk. You started off making confrontational comments about members. That got out of hand, with boarder line threats. Then you started with this person controlling the site, using the Admins are puppets. To just flat out complaints, then saying VR is hiding something like we are a china spy balloon. But still you have your journal to vent.
While I, I just gave the place for us to enjoy the show. No one was forced to read the journals. And like you- we could use the codes to make it private. But like you- why should we? After all you are posting to be read. I am posting in response to your comments. We both have that right as members to this site. Yes- as a member of this site, I have the right to read your journal as you have not taken steps to make it private. As an Admin- I am required to do it. Read that again. As a MEMBER I have the right to read it. ADMIN – Required. Member- Have the right. ADMIN- Required.
You don’t do a private journal because it will not garnish the reads, the drama, the reaction you are going for. So play the victim. Play the ‘admins are attack me.” “Admins can’t get enough of me.” I can promise you if you stop, we will move along. But till then, we have the rights to post as we want, within the site rules just as you.
Because we are members. We are MEMBERS of the site. We have big shoes to fill from past Masters. You think any of those would have laid down, take your crap? Again Miss. 8 years, you don’t know the history of those past Masters. I do. I have seen them take down a trouble maker with freaking ass style! And would pay good money to see what would happen if they step into that dog ring. You really don’t have any clue of the first Master’s ways.
We have all the rights of a members of the site.
We have to follow the rules of the site, as all do.
We have to ENFORCE the rules of the site.
We are…
